COOLING YOUR HOME IN SUMMER

Summer is almost upon us, so we need to keep our cool, easier said than done you say? How do we cool our home in summer.

Well there are a number of ways to cool a home in summer. Air conditioning can keep us cool however it can be very expensive and sometimes labours to cool the home when there is excessive heat. We can use whole house fans and evaporative cooling however these all come at a cost and it is not cost effective to have any appliance running 24/7 to keep you cool in summer. So what is the answer to cooling the home in summer?

THE THING IS WHETHER YOU ARE AT HOME DURING THE DAY OR YOU ARE NOT AT HOME DURING THE DAY

First thing to do is keep all windows and drapes closed from the time it starts to heat up till the time it cools down in the evening – open all doors within the home so air currents will flow throughout the home.

Now the real trick to cooling the home in summer is to have real effective roof ventilation system, why is that you say? Well no matter what you have cooling the inside of your home in summer it is not cooling the roofspace, nor would you want to go to that expense. However your roofspace can be over 75° C and never cools down completely, so this trapped heat is dissipating into your home 24/7 making your air conditioner work overtime and if you don’t have any type of cooling system you definitely are not going to be able to sleep at night. It does not matter how many windows you have open for cross ventilation after it cools down in the evening, the heat from the roofspace will enter the home and give you many sleepless summer nights.

So what are you to do? You need an effective roof ventilation system, one that has inlets and outlets to allow the ambient air to enter and evacuate the roofspace.

BY EQUALISING THE OUTSIDE AIR WITH THE INSIDE OF THE ROOFSPACE, YOU ARE CROSS VENTILATING YOUR ROOFSPACE

This in turn keeps you cooler in your home 24/7 in summer and believe it or not warmer in winter.

So the trick is keep the windows and drapes closed during the day and your roofspace breathing 24/7 and you will certainly have a home that is much cooler this summer and for all the summers to come.

Which ventilation system is best to allow the ambient air to circulate the roofspace -

UNIVERSAL TILE VENTILATOR SYSTEMS ARE THE ONLY VENTILATION SYSTEMS THAT CAN EFFECTIVELY VENTILATE THE ROOSPACE TO ALLOW THE AMBIENT AIR TO CIRCULATE 24/7.

After installing our ventilation systems - if you have air conditioning you will use it at least 25% less than you normally do – your air conditioner will not labour to cool your home – if you don’t have any cooling system at all you will have a much cooler home, you won’t have any more sleepless summer nights and for much of the time you will think you have a cooling system (of course you will have one in the roof). So for a one off cost you will have a cooling system that will last the life of your roof or longer, will never need to be replaced or maintained like other ineffective ventilators do.

So if you want to have your home cool and feel cool this summer and for decades to come you can’t go past UNIVERSAL TILE VENTILATOR SYSTEMS for tiled roofs and    for colorbond roofs.
